Our story

From 2018 to 2023, we made a bimonthly print magazine called Circus Journal. It was a unique offering for the south-west, containing real journalism, proper photography, design and illustration. We created 20 issues, each a keepsake we were proud of. Our print run was growing and we had big plans for the future.

But, the third member of our team had different plans. He announced that he was moving on to create an online events platform. Circus closed. Then, a new print magazine appeared. It had similar typefaces and ideas to Circus, and many of the same writers. It had the same stockists and community we’d worked hard to build. He blocked us out of the Instagram account we had worked hard to grow, and claimed it as his own. Our team member had used us.

We had meetings with lawyers to see if we had a case against his blatant bad will. We did. But it was going to cost us. So, instead, we decided to invest in something something new. That’s when Sundae Press was born.
