Interior designer Emily Rickard on her Bristol highlights

Emily Rickard

“In Bristol, you can walk down the street and feel part of a big family, often bumping into people you know,” says Emily Rickard, Interior designer and owner Magasin, a delicious homeware shop on Colston Street. “But if you take a different route on a certain day, you can find yourself lost in the little streets and often come across something totally unexpected. Mostly art or music… and what a gem that is!”

The bakery
Farro is an absolute must. Their bread and pastries are divine. I always try to bring out-of-towners here to try them. They serve amazing coffee and have a sweet little deli section selling oils, sauces and other delicious things.

The shopping
I love having a little mooch around
USTUDIO on Gloucester Road. It’s great for gift ideas and always full of lovely stylish items.

The supplies
For local groceries, I'm a huge fan of
C&T Licata & Sons in Montpelier. It’s a real taste of Italy. family-run... and a neighbourhood staple.

The walk
Bristol has so many amazing walks that it's hard to pick one. I love heading up to The Downs to see the sunset on a summer evening. To really feel like you are in nature I love Snuff Mills, walking along the river among the trees. The wild garlic and bluebell woods at the top of Stoke Park are also a favourite.

The restaurant
Bianchis. I can't fault it. Family run, delicious and service always with a smile.

The wine
Carmen St Wine. I love the fact that this little spot feels like it transports you—it's a bit Hackney, mixed with New York mixed with Paris. All right in Stokes Croft. The wine selection and small plates are delicious and the staff's knowledge is amazing.

The weekend
Walking along the waterside and popping into Arnolfini and M Shed for a little culture before heading to Wapping Wharf for a bite to eat. The walk is best finished off with a drink at The Cottage Inn on the waterfront. We sometimes take a water taxi back which is the perfect end to a Sunday.
